Brief Introduction

Professor (Dr.) Anil Kumar Rai is an accomplished and renowned academician with a very rich experience in the field of Higher Education. He has obtained his academic qualifications B.A. Hon’s, M.A., M.Phil., Ph.D. from University of Delhi, Delhi and BJMC, MJC, Ph.D. degrees in Journalism and Mass Communication from different reputed Universities. He has more than 29 years of teaching, research and media profession experience. He has established Mass Communication department in VBS Purvanchal University, Jaunpur, Uttar Pradesh and worked there as Head of the Department from Dec. 1998 to Sept. 2008. Prof. Rai worked as Reader and Head of Electronic Media Studies department in KT University of Journalism & Mass Communication, Raipur, Chhattisgarh from October 2008 to July 2009. Before joining Mahatma Gandhi Central University, Motihari (Bihar) to the post of Pro-Vice- Chancellor in October 2018, Prof. Rai has been working as a Professor- Mass Media, Dean- School of Humanities & Social Sciences, Dean- School of Education, Dean- School of Management, Dean- Student’s welfare, Director- Centre for Communication and Media Studies, Director- IQAC, Head- Department of Mass Communication, Head- Department of Political Science, Head- Department of Sociology, Head- Department of History, Head- Department of Anthropology in Mahatma Gandhi Antarrashtriya Hindi Vishwavidyalaya, Wardha, Maharashtra since July 2009. Currently, Dr. Rai is serving as Hon’ble Vice- Chancellor in Pandit Deendayal Upadhyaya Shekhawati University, Sikar, Rajasthan.

His area of specialization is electronic media, especially television programme production and reporting. He has written/ edited/ compiled more than two dozen books and equally research papers in the field of media and mass communication and contributed more than 200 articles in daily news papers and magazines. As an editor, he has been also bringing out the reputed media journal ‘Indian Media Studies Journal’ and associated with the other journals of national and international repute as an editor/ advisor. He has been awarded two major research projects – one from UGC and one from NCSTC, DST (Govt. of India).

Before joining VBS Purvanchal University, he has been in media profession as an active journalist with newspapers and TV channels in Delhi in the capacity of correspondent, associate editor and producer/ script writer/ anchor since 1991. In 1994, he was invited by B.R. Ambedkar College of Delhi University to develop BA Honors Programme in Hindi Journalism and Mass Communication. In addition, it was quite pleasant moment for him to be one of them who has established the honors level programme in journalism and mass communication first time in India.

Prof. Rai has been honored by several awards like, Savitribai Phule Samman- Shiksha – 2022, ICN Award-2019, IARDO Award- 2018, Bharat Jyoti Award- 2015, Vidarbh Bhusham Award -2015, Utkrishth Shikshak Samman- 2013-14, “Kulbhushan” Manad Upadhi (National Honour)- 2006, Sanchar Shree Award- 2005 for his outstanding contribution in the field of media teaching and profession.

अनुभव समृद्ध आचार्य (डॉ.) अनिल कुमार राय उच्च शिक्षा के क्षेत्र में एक कुशल एवं ख्यातिलब्ध शिक्षाविद हैं । आप पंडित दीनदयाल उपाध्याय शेखावटी विश्वविद्यालय, सीकर के माननीय कुलपति के पद को सुशोभित करते हुए अपने दायित्व का निर्वहन कर रहे हैं । महात्मा गांधी अंतरराष्ट्रीय हिंदी विश्वविद्यालय, वर्धा में संचार एवं मीडिया अध्ययन केंद्र में निदेशक, जनसंचार विभागाध्यक्ष, शिक्षा विद्यापीठ के संकायाध्यक्ष, छात्र कल्याण अधिष्ठाता तथा मानविकी एवं सामाजिक विज्ञान विद्यापीठ के अधिष्ठाता के दायित्यों का निर्वहन कर चुके हैं । आप विभिन्नछ विश्वविद्यालयों के कार्य परिषद और विद्या परिषद के सदस्य के रूप में अपनी सेवाएं प्रदान करते रहे हैं । प्रो. राय भारत के तत्कालीन राष्ट्रपति माननीय रामनाथ कोविंद जी द्वारा मौलाना आजाद राष्ट्रीय उर्दू विश्वविद्यालय, हैदराबाद के कुलाधिपति के रूप में मनोनीत प्रथम कोर्ट के सदस्य तथा अन्य कई केंद्रीय एवं राज्य विश्वविद्यालयों में माननीय कुलाध्यक्ष एवं कुलाधिपति द्वारा नामित प्रतिनिधि सदस्य रह चुके हैं । आप हरिदेव जोशी पत्रकारिता एवं जनसंचार विश्वविद्यालय, जयपुर के प्रबंध बोर्ड में माननीय राज्यपाल एवं कुलाधिपति, राजस्थान के प्रतिनिधि के रूप में मनोनीत सदस्य हैं । महात्मा गांधी केंद्रीय विश्वविद्याय, मोतीहारी, बिहार के माननीय कार्यकारी कुलपति तथा प्रति कुलपति के पद दायित्व को सुशोभित करने का आपको गौरव प्राप्त है ।

उच्च शिक्षा तथा पत्रकारिता के क्षेत्र में किए गए महत्वपूर्ण योगदान के लिए प्रो. राय को भारत ज्योति पुरस्कार, संचारश्री पुरस्कार, उत्कृष्ठ शिक्षक सम्मान तथा सामाजिक- सांस्कृतिक क्षेत्र में किए गए योगदानों के लिए विदर्भ भूषण पुरस्कार, द्वारिकाधीष मानद उपाधि जैसे अनेक प्रतिष्ठित पुरस्कारों से अलंकृत किया गया है। 23 पुस्तकों के लेखक-संपादक- संचयक, दर्जनों शोध पत्रों के प्रस्तोता, प्रोफेसर अनिल कुमार राय इससे पूर्व वीर बहादुर सिंह पूर्वांचल विश्वविद्यालय, जौनपुर, उत्तर प्रदेश के जनसंचार विभाग के संस्थापक अध्यक्ष रह चुके हैं तथा वहां कार्य परिषद, विद्या परिषद तथा अध्ययन मण्डल अध्यक्ष के माध्यम से उच्च शिक्षा के उन्नयन में अपना योगदान दे चुके हैं तथा देश के अनेक विश्वविद्यालयों में विविध विद्वत परिषद के सदस्य के रूप में अपना योगदान प्रदान कर रहे हैं ।

कई प्रतिष्ठित पत्र-पत्रिकाओं, दूरदर्शन तथा निजी टी.वी. चैनल में सक्रिय पत्रकार, टी.वी. कार्यक्रम प्रोड्यूसर एवं एंकर के रूप में कार्यानुभवी प्रोफेसर राय देश में पहली बार हिंदी पत्रकारिता की पढ़ाई स्नातक (ऑनर्स) स्तर पर प्रारंभ करने वानों में से एक हैं । दिल्ली विश्वविद्यालय के भीमराव अंबेडकर महाविद्यालय में इसे 1994 में प्रारंभ किया गया था जिससे प्रोफेसर राय सक्रिय रूप से संबद्ध रहे । कुशाभाऊ ठाकरे पत्रकारिता एवं जनसंचार विश्वविद्यालय, छत्तीसगढ़ में इलेक्ट्रॉनिक मीडिया अध्ययन विभाग के अध्यक्ष का दायित्व भी आप पूर्व में निभा चुके हैं । आपकी प्राथमिक एवं माध्यमिक शिक्षा उत्तर प्रदेश तथा उच्च शिक्षा दिल्लीय विश्वविद्यालय, दिल्ली से हुई है । दो विषयों में परास्नातक तथा दो- दो पी-एच.डी. उपाधि धारण करने का गौरव भी आपको प्राप्त है ।
